Head to Orbetello to experience the “Threepenny Carnival” (Carnevaletto da 3 Soldi)

Overview

From february 16th to march 04 the Orbetello lagoon will shine with colors and music during this unmissable event.

When the organizers decided to call it "Threepenny carnival" in the 1950s, they probably never imagined the great success it would have! At first the floats were simple, rudimentary with no moving parts, musical bands enlivened the parades with the sound of marching. The first themes, fairy tales, animals and fictional characters, were added over time with increasingly modern subjects, also thanks to the advent of television.

Now the construction of the floats involves people of all ages and the increasingly imposing well-made papier-mâché giants parade in the lagoon village competing with their artistic greatness, to conquer the coveted title of best float, "Il Carrissimo".

The days of light hearted fun for children and adults will culminate with the night parade  which, with music, will close this long-awaited and spectacular event.
