In Etruscan times it was already populated and was called Castiglione. It was then disputed between Perugians and Florentines, who prevailed and in 1384 gave it the attribute of "Florentine".
Castiglion Fiorentino today is high on a hill and dominates the Valdichiana. In the village, with a fortified structure, the Vasarian Logges are worth a visit, on the Piazza del Comune, the Cassero which houses the Municipal Art Gallery and the church of Sant'Angelo where the Archaeological Museum is located, with finds from the Etruscan era. Also worth seeing is the collegiate church of San Giuliano, imposing, the church of Gesù from the Renaissance period and that of S. Augustine, Gothic, up to the most intimate churches of Santo Stefano and Santa Chiara.
