Montepulciano

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

Between the Val d 'Orcia and the Valdichiana, on the crest of a hill, stands the village of Montepulciano, of late Etruscan origin, noble appearance and with a Renaissance tone. There are many things to see, such as the church of San Biagio, isolated at the foot of the hill, the Renaissance palaces and churches such as that of Sant'Agostino, which meet going up the streets of Gracciano, Voltaia, Opium in the Corso, up to the top, with the suction cup and suggestive Piazza Grande, overlooking the Cathedral, the bell tower of the ancient parish church and the Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi.

Going up again, on thetower of the Town Hall, you can enjoy a magnificent view from the Amiata to Siena, up to Lake Trasimeno and Mount Subasio.

Also notable are the excellences at the table, such as the DOP Terre di Siena oil, the Nobile, Valdichiana or Rosso Montepulciano wine, the plums of the ancient Mascina variety, pecorino cheese and sausages. In the centre there are also craft shops and artistic processing of iron and wood and mosaic workshops.
