Velvet mi Amor

Overview

Velvet mi Amor is an exhibition project dedicated to contemporary experiments with velvet, seeing 24 characters take form, deriving from the creative imagination and research of the studio of designers Stefano Chiassai and Corinna Chiassai, specializing in creative consultancy for men’s and women’s fashion brands nationally and internationally.

The installation, which has been presented at a number of trade fairs, will be set up for the first time in a museum context, showing the public the manual processing and technical experimentation that goes beyond a stylistic exercise, celebrating the creativity of contemporary textile production.

Laser processing, velvet inlays with other materials, optical illusion prints, hand weaving, pleating, changes in direction of the ribbing in velvet, atypical color combinations and new textures enliven the installation.

Alongside velvets, however, are other materials that, through a broad range of processing methods, imitate their appearance: satins, poplin, gabardine, moleskins, denim, fabrics with varying degrees of three-dimensionality and smoothness are all processed in such a way as to give the illusion of being velvets.

The exhibition is not only a unique opportunity to delve into contemporary fashion experimentation and innovation but also a way to study and appreciate a fabric that continues to inspire stylists and designers around the world, while exploring the language of contemporary fashion for addressing the younger generation.

Velvet mi Amor is being held at the Prato Textile Museum from March 8 to June 8.
