Montecatini Terme

Overview

Wellness amidst baths and neoclassical arcades

Now known throughout the world as a town of wellness and health, Montecatini Terme sits on land with a water table not even 100 metres deep, where its thermal waters originate. The jewel in the crown of this location earned it UNESCO World Heritage status in 2021.

In Montecatini you will find no less than nine spas. The most distinctive are the Tettuccio, which over the centuries have enchanted illustrious personalities, from Giuseppe Verdi to King Victor Emmanuel II, from Coco Chanel to Audrey Hepburn. Its neoclassical style pools and porticoes are reminiscent of Ancient Rome, and then Ionic columns, Carrara and Monsummano marble, frescoes and statues. But you will also enjoy the Redi, Excelsior and Giardini Termali spas.

It is worth climbing up to Montecatini Alto, hugged by two hills, to enjoy a spectacular view over the Valdinievole and to stroll through the narrow streets of the medieval village. You can also get there by car, but if the weather is nice and the lifts are running, with departures at least every half hour, it can be even more pleasant and romantic to get there on the Gigio & Gigia red trains.
