Regional Park of Maremma

Overview

The charm of a unique ecosystem

Also known as the Regional Park of Uccellina, because surrounded by the homonymous mountain range, the Maremma Park is an enchanting natural reserve of southern Tuscany, which extends along the stretch of coast from Principina a Mare to the promontory of Talamone, up to the mouth of the Ombrone river.

The territory of the Park covers about 18 thousand hectares, within the municipalities of Grosseto, Magliano in Tuscany and Orbetello, and has a variety of ecosystems, whose biodiversity is protected. Paradise for birdwatchers, during the migratory season the area is populated by a considerable amount of aquatic birds. From a landscape point of view, the park is occupied for the most part by Mediterranean scrub, in the northern area by marshy environments and in the coastal stretch by sandy beaches, bays and cliffs, surrounded by pine forest.

In the thick vegetation you will see historical testimonies, including numerous watchtowers against Saracen raids and the ruins of the abbey of San Rabano, a Benedictine monastery of the twelfth century.

There are many routes to visit the Park, itineraries on foot, on horseback, by bicycle and by canoe. A 360-degree immersion among the colors and scents of an enveloping nature.
