Terrazza Mascagni

Overview

This beautiful esplanade overlooking the sea, with its unique black and white chequered pavement, is one of the most charming places in the city: from here you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama, admire the different shades of blue from the sea to the sky and be thrilled by the sunset. The architecture of Livorno's most famous terrace - named after the composer Pietro Mascagni, born here in 1863 - is very unique: the floor is a chessboard of 8700 square metres, made of more than 34 000 black and white tiles, and the balustrade made of 4000 small columns separates the square from the sea.

The style of the terrace, refined and dazzling in its simplicity, makes this unique place also perfect for a romantic stroll or for photography lovers looking for an unusual setting.
