Overview
Ca’ Rezzonico celebrates the addition of Ambassador Paolo Galli’s donation to the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. The collection consists of 216 sheets by Italian masters spanning the 16th to the 20th century. Due to the quality of the works, the variety of techniques and types, and the number of artists represented—from rare *petits-maîtres* to renowned names—it is the most significant acquisition in the field of graphic arts since the bequest of Nuccia and Riccardo Musatti in 1967. Born from a private passion nurtured over the years with the support of prominent scholars such as Philip Pouncey, Terisio Pignatti, and Mario Di Giampaolo, the collection was assembled through purchases at major auction houses and specialized dealers, without a predetermined program. Instead, it followed personal taste and fascination for the secret world where the creative moment of every artist lies hidden.
In addition to the classic names of 18th-century Venetian masters like Giambattista and Giandomenico Tiepolo, Giambattista Piazzetta, Antonio and Francesco Guardi, Gaspare Diziani, and Francesco Fontebasso, the collection focuses primarily on Italian painters from other schools, particularly the Bolognese, Roman, and Florentine traditions.
