Circular itinerary starting from Montaione

The cycle route starts in Montaione, known for its glassmaking. After an initial descent, take the ascent in the direction of San Vivaldo; a visit to the Convent and the Sacro Monte of the same name is recommended.
Go down a tree-lined road, where you can admire some of the Tuscan countryside and the town of Volterra in the distance.
After reaching the picturesque village of Iano, known for onyx mining, continue to Villamagna where the landscape takes on a wilder, more barren and wild appearance. Once past the village and its shops, head towards Peccioli through the Valdera hills. You will face a series of uphill hairpin bends lead you to the picturesque village of Montelopio, announced by a wooden crucifix.
Cycling through the hills

Another crucifix is affixed at the gates of Fabbrica, a pretty village that you will find as you continue uphill; here, we invite you to take a tour of the typical village shops.
You come to Peccioli after a few kilometres of apparently flat ground in the green countryside, surrounded by Tuscan olive trees. A bell tower welcomes you to the village with its maze of alleys.
A challenging climb takes you to Legoli, where the old landfill has been transformed into the Triangolo Verde, a state-of-the-art recycling centre, made even more impressive by the “Presenze”: giant human figures made of polymers and cement fibres, created by Naturaliter,
Leave the town and descend to Castelfalfi, then conclude the journey returning to Montaione.
