Circular itinerary starting from Pontremoli

The itinerary starts in the centre of Pontremoli, near the mediaeval Cresa bridge. From here, proceed along an avenue shaded by trees, cross the bridge, and you will come to the beautiful Baroque villa Dosi Delfini. Downshift and start the climb on Piagnaro hill, with its Castle and the Museum of Lunigiana Stele Statues, which represent the culture of this area between the Eneolithic and Iron Ages.

Travelling part of the Via Francigena route, you pass through the village of Santissima Annunziata and enter Valle del Caprio, then on to the village of Ponticello.

Continue along the banks of the Magra river and lose yourself in the stunning Sorano, lying on two slopes.

Back on a gravel road, you climb the Bagnone Valley to Bagnone village, nestled between the streams and peaks of the Apennines. Walk alongside its castle to reach Villafranca Lunigiana and the park that branches off along the Magra river. Cross it to find yourself pedalling in the municipality of Mulazzo on a route immersed in nature. The trail takes you back up the valley, on the right bank, until you reach Pontremoli again.
