Wine Route of the Etruscan Coast

Overview

Food and wine on the Tuscan coast

The Wine Route of the Etruscan Coast is about 150 kilometers long and extends between the provinces of Livorno and Pisa, along the Tyrrhenian coast and going up to the Island of Elba. Here, between hills covered with vineyards and Mediterranean scrub, and the blue of the sea, you can taste the wines of the area and the gastronomic delights of a territory with a long history.

The best known wine is Sassicaia, but you can not miss the Terratico di Bibbona and Montescudaio, all Doc wines that contain the flavors of this corner of Tuscany overlooking the sea. On the island of Elba there is the Aleatico Passito with which you will fall in love.

But wine is not the only treasure of the Etruscan Coast. If you love fish you have to taste the palamita, Slow Food garrison, Bolgheri briao tuna and Pombini-style stockfish. Among the woods of Sassetta grow chestnuts prepared in soup or processed into jam. The interior areas offer instead an excellent extra virgin olive oil, mushrooms and wild boar salami.
