Toledo Metro Station
Our itinerary in splendid Naples in the footsteps of the characters of The Sea Beyond starts from the Toledo Metro Station. Here, in episode 1 of season 1, Filippo, a northern boy from a good family with a career as a pianist, meets Naditza, a gypsy girl who commits petty crimes to "take refuge" in the IPM (Juvenile Penitentiary Institute) and escape from her parents. The scene in the station sees them share a kiss in passing, for Naditza to distract the young man and the guards, while she steals a wallet.
In the San Giuseppe district, the Toledo Metro Station is among the most beautiful in Europe. In fact, inside it is the Galleria del Mare, an area entirely covered with blue and ocher tiles. On the ceiling, in the center of the escalators, a cone of light filters along all the levels of the station letting natural light shine down. A real museum of contemporary art in the Neapolitan subsoil, full of mosaics to wow you. This is the ideal point for visiting the centers via Roma and via Toledo, and the majestic architectural work of the Galleria Umberto I which is only 500 meters from the station.

Leaving from the Galleria Umberto I, it's time to walk for 10 minutes towards the second stage of the journey, the symbol of the television series. The Juvenile Institute which houses the beloved protagonists of the series. Although the fiction refers to the Nisida Juvenile Penitentiary Institute (IPM), the scenes of the The Sea Beyond prison are not filmed on the Flegrea island, but actually at the Marine Military Naval Base, located in via Acton in Naples.
Present in all the episodes of The Sea Beyond, with Molo San Vincenzo it’s the ideal place to enjoy a walk of about 4 kilometers along the sea, admiring the Neapolitan Gulf from an unprecedented perspective and retracing the stages and the history of a place that for years it was a focal point of the city. The naval base was, in fact, the ancient headquarters of the Royal Navy of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, the place where ships were launched and cannons were built.
Go as far as the lighthouse, known as the Lanterna del Molo, and reach the end of the pier, where the statue of San Gennaro stands defending the city from Vesuvius and the sea. In the prison scenes, with the teens outdoor activities, you can see in the background the port of Naples and the majestic Maschio Angioino, in Corso Vittorio Emanuele III: a stop at the historic medieval and Renaissance castle is a must.

Bagnoli jetty
The second day of the tour starts from the Bagnoli jetty pier, from episode 1 of season 3 of The Sea Beyond, on which Ciro and his sister Rosa stroll while remembering their childhood. The structure, built in the 1960s to allow for the docking of ships and the unloading of raw materials - useful for the now closed Italsider iron and steel plant - is almost a kilometer long and offers splendid views over the gulf of Pozzuoli, the Procida islands and Ischia, Capo Miseno and the islet of Nisida.
A detail to see is the work of the sculptor Giancarlo Neri, nicknamed "Pasqualone", a totem made with waste materials from the former steel mill, located at the beginning of the platform on the right. You can reach the Bagnoli jetty, in via Coroglio, every day. From Piazza Garibaldi, just take the L2 metro line, Bagnoli station or opt for the Cumana, Bagnoli stop.

The alleyways of Naples
From the Pontile di Bagnoli, the second Neapolitan day is dedicated to exploring the alleys of the historic center, including getting lost in the charm of it all. In the series the alleyways are the backdrop for many episodes of the third season. Especially due to Gaetano, known as O'Pirucchio, who moves from home to his workplace, the Capasso pizzeria in Porta San Gennaro.
Naples is known throughout the world for its myriad of alleys, the beating heart of the city. Walk among waving laundry hung out to dry on lines, baskets being lowered from upper floors, the clamor of the shops and the scent of coffee on stovetops. Immerse yourself in authentic Neapolitan folklore, its smells and colors.

The lido is immediately recognizable thanks to its colorful tables and the characteristic view of the sea. Take advantage of it and enjoy a regenerating swim or surf: thanks to the crystal clear sea, the sand dunes and the breezy climate it makes for a unique experience.
