Naples' alleys

Overview

The soul of the city

There are cities where even getting lost means treating yourself to the most beautiful journey, where you rely on the soul of the city to take you by the hand to discover its most remote and authentic corners. Scents, flavours, sounds and colours mingle in a unique blend of past and present, tradition and modernity. To discover Naples, one must walk through its alleys, surrounded by the capillaries that run through the city and constitute its beating heart.

The most famous alley is, without a doubt, San Gregorio Armeno, where it is Christmas all year round, with its traditional nativity shops displaying terracotta statuettes. Here, Baby Jesus sleeps with the Three Wise Men on one side and Maradona on the other. Not far away in Via dei Tribunali, the smell of freshly baked pizza mingles with the aroma of coffee or ragù simmering on the fire. The cramped feel of Vico Scassacocchi will surprise you, while Vico Freddo in Rua Catalana, near the harbour, is cool even on the hottest days. The most photographed is Vico dell'Amore in the Spanish Neighbourhood, a triumph of romance with its coloured hearts and banners. In Naples, every street and every corner is a discovery.
