The magic of Christmas 2024 in the historic centre of Aosta

Overview

The Christmas atmosphere in Aosta begins on 23 November. Every day, up to and including 6 January, the streets and squares of the city's historic centre are transformed into a charming open-air Christmas Market.

It is called Marché Vert Noël and is divided into some symbolic places in the capital of the Aosta Valley. The Roncas, Caveri and Giovanni XXIII squares - otherwise known as the Cathedral square - will host a delightful alpine village for more than a month, full of gift ideas to better celebrate Christmas.

In particular, it will be the artifacts of typical Aosta Valley craftsmanship, and among them the fascinating wooden objects, in addition to the local food and wine products, the old objects, the Nordic inspirations, that fill the benches of the typical wooden houses of the Christmas tradition, able to transport a fairytale context in the heart of the city and access unusual gifts.

The opportunity is also there to immerse yourself in an archaeological world of great beauty. In fact, the route of the Marché Vert Noël, which is also fully accessible to the disabled, winds through three small squares that are part of the Roman and medieval fabric of the city. A precious initiative to discover the vestiges of ancient Augusta Pretoria. These include the Cryptoporticus, an extraordinary testimony of the ancient city, which stands right next to the Cathedral, in the area where the city forum once stood, and the Regional Archaeological Museum, which is located in Roncas Square. The nearby monumental complex of Sant'Orso is worth a visit.

In the old town, there are numerous bars and other accommodation and catering services.
