Campofilone

Overview

Land of Maccheroncino

Can't resist a good plate of pasta? Then Campofilone is the perfect destination for you. This small medieval village in the Marche interior, in the province of Fermo, is home to the Maccheroncino, thin strands of egg pasta that, unsurprisingly, have been awarded the PGI label. Enjoy them served with a meat sauce, perhaps during the Festival held every year since 1964 in early August. A tasty break, the best way to crown your visit.

Do you love spicy food? Campofilone will not disappoint you either thanks to the Chilli Festival in late August, taste over 40 varieties of this fruit. Be brave and try the naturally spicy ice cream specially made for the occasion.

But before you sit down to eat, take a stroll through the streets of the old town, enclosed by mighty walls: a maze of narrow streets that weave into a labyrinth where you can have fun getting lost. Follow the Viale dei Pini and enter the village from Porta Marina. Equally impressive are Porta da Bora and Porta del Sole.

Stop to admire Campofilone's landmark, the Abbey of San Benedetto, overlooking Piazza Umberto I. On the left, enter the Abbey Vegetable Garden, a fortified garden with a terrace from which to admire the surrounding panorama with views reaching as far as the Adriatic and the Sibylline Mountains.
