Overview
On Easter morning and the days that follow, the people of Urbania gather in the squares of the town in the Marche region to celebrate a tradition that was probably born in peasant farmyards, when it was lovely to have fun during simpler times.
Those organising the competition had the task of bringing hundreds of hard-boiled eggs, double the number of participants, to the farmyard, which were placed on the ground and placed in rows.
The player selected started the game by beating, with the tip of their egg, those of the other players and continued until their egg held firm and pocketed all those they had broken: the game was then continued by the next competitor and so on for 2 rounds.
Although the winnings are no longer as tempting as in the past, even today in the central square of Urbania and at some neighbouring parish churches, gamblers of all ages gather to spend Easter morning and Easter Monday in joy and simplicity.
