Santa Caterina di Valfurva

Overview

History, art and nature in Valfurva

About ten kilometres from Bormio, in the heart of Alta Valtellina and the Stelvio National Park, you can experience magical days in the snow or try your hand at hiking in the beautiful setting of Santa Caterina Valfurva

At an altitude of 1,700 metres, surrounded by the highest peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale group, with its 35 kilometres of ski slopes, “Santa” - as its inhabitants call it - is one of the most popular destinations for winter sports enthusiasts. If you are feeling adventurous, head down the “black” Compagnoni, which starts at the Cresta Sobretta, or take the scenic “red”. There is no shortage of fun either for those who prefer cross-country skiing to downhill, thanks to the Pista Valtellina, often the location of the World Cup, and the non-competitive 2, 3 and 5-kilometre loops.

In fine weather, you can don comfortable clothing and hiking shoes and set out to discover the trenches used by Italian soldiers during the Great War.

All year round, at the end of an active day spent outdoors, you can enjoy a traditional dinner of cheese, salami and pizzoccheri. What better way to end your visit?
