Madesimo

Overview

A paradise for skiing enthusiasts

Madesimo, the pearl of the Mountain community of Valchiavenna in the province of Sondrio, is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Alps. Located at 1,394 metres above sea level, it attracts tourists and visitors all year round. During the warmer months, you can immerse yourself in the nature that surrounds the village, strolling through silent forests, rhododendron bushes and the crystal-clear waters of Azzurro Lake.

In the winter season, meanwhile, Madesimo is covered in snow and becomes a popular spot for anyone who loves skiing, winter sports and steep slopes, such as Canalone, which tests the skills of even the most experienced skiers. The Skiarea Valchiavenna ski resort boasts 40 kilometres of downhill skiing trails and 12 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails. It also offers plenty of routes for snowshoeing enthusiasts, starting with the one that runs across the entire plateau to Mottaccio

If, after hours of fun on the slopes, you want to take a break and discover the history and traditions of the valley, we highly recommend visiting the Museum of the Via Spluga. You can end your day with a dinner of typical local products, from bresaola to cheeses from the alpine pastures to the unmissable grappa.
