Scaldasole

Overview

An abundance of water and a generous climate make Lomellina one of the best-known agricultural regions in Italy. Rice and cereals are the protagonists of this ancient peasant landscape, accompanied by native fruits and vegetables, such as peas, Bremen onions and Cilavegna asparagus.

Set in this dynamic agricultural context, the village of Scaldasole is dominated at the centre by the mighty structure of a medieval castle. It is said that several protagonists from modern history have stayed in Scaldasole: the emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg and Charles V of Habsburg, for example, in addition to one of the main proponents of the Unification of Italy, the Piedmontese Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour.

The Strada family, owner of the fortress of Scaldasole, is now working to expand the family farm set in the farmhouse near the castle.
