The "Pasquali" of Bormio

Overview

Also this year, the town of Alta Valtellina will once more celebrate the Pasquali parade, the traditional festivity that makes Easter unique and continues to arouse the enthusiasm and active participation of all Bormini folk.

The event originates from peasant traditions and takes its name from the 'pasquali', elaborate sedan chairs with religious themes. These are made by the young people of the town during the winter months and carried on their shoulders on Easter Sunday in a colorful parade through the streets of Bormio.

Their construction requires ingenuity, skill and craftsmanship: carpenters, blacksmiths and craftsmen express the best of their art.

The "pasqualisti" carry the sedan chairs on their shoulders, while participants complete the parade with flowers and small handicrafts.

The event is made even more special by the participation of children, families and folk groups, all dressed in traditional costume.

Finally, a jury casts its votes based on various factors, from religious significance to craft skills and artistic work, without forgetting the cultural and traditional aspect, the fulcrum of the event.

The pasquali remain on display in Piazza del Kuerc until Easter Monday.
