Montalto di Castro

In the heart of the Lazio Maremma, just five kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast and wonderfully located on the left bank of the river Fiora, Montalto di Castro is located in the centre of the typical green and flat Maremma landscape: an environment cultivated mainly with cereals as a result of the reclamations that have made this once swampy coastal area accessible.

Within a bucolic setting, straddling the hills and the sea of Montalto Marina, the bulk of the Guglielmi castle stands out, an identity symbol of the village of Montalto di Castro and an access gate in the direction of the alleys of the historic centre. Some fragments of the medieval walls are still intact and embrace the layout of the oldest nucleus, giving the village an enchanting atmosphere, with a rich past.
