Nera River Park

Overview

A few kilometres before entering Terni, in southern Umbria, the River Nera crosses a wild and particularly unspoilt landscape: the Nera River Park, a protected territory in the Valnerina, overlooked by the unmistakable cascade of the Marmore Falls, the highest waterfall in Europe.

Along the course of the river, dense forests of oaks and willows, holm oaks and cypresses, and many other plant species, cover the ridges of the hills, which in this part of Umbria are particularly steep and rocky. The Nera River Park includes a developed system of hiking trails that meander through the wet, green thickets, a paradise for walkers and truffle and for mushroom hunters.

There is also no shortage of opportunities to visit sites of undeniable cultural value: for example, the ancient towns of Arrone and Ferentillo, as well as the thousand-year-old Abbey of San Pietro in Valle, to name a few particularly well-known places.
