Vada

Overview

Rosignano Marittimo stands on a hill from which you can admire the beautiful landscape that surrounds it, from the gentle hills to the sparkling sea. The historic heart of the village is its castle, which today recalls the strategic role it played over the centuries as a defence against attacks from the sea. The seafaring heart of the village, however, is its hamlet Vada, famous for its white beaches and a town that has always had traditions linked to the sea. Behind the port stands the Tower, which among its various identities has also had that of lighthouse. But Vada's real lighthouse is located on the rocks emerging from the shallows a few miles off the coast, still sending out its messages to boats, a symbol of seafaring life.
