Apuan Alps

Overview

Peaks a stone's throw from the sea

The Apuan Alps are known for the famous white marble, such as that of Carrara extracted since the Etruscan era, but also for the deep abysses and karst caves, such as the fascinating cave system of the Antro del Corchia that extends for 70 kilometers.

A stone's throw from the Ligurian Sea, the Apuan Alps respond to those who do not know how to choose between sea and mountain. In a short time from the peaks to 2000 meters you can reach the beaches of Versilia or the crystal clear waters of the Cinque Terre, and vice versa.

Do not miss the Cave of Carrara, used since ancient times, testimony of a close link between man and the mountain. The blocks mined here have become immortal masterpieces like Michelangelo's David.

Those who love the outdoors can enjoy a dense network of trails that crosses every corner of the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps. Discover the Botanical Garden of Pian della Fioba, a few minutes from the center of Massa. It is located at 1000 meters of altitude and offers a splendid view of the coast and the peaks. In the heart of Garfagnana is Lake Gramolazzo, a natural oasis surrounded by woods and peaks.
