Castel Caldes

Overview

A Gothic-style jewel of Trentino

At the entrance to Val di Sole, in Trentino, overlooking the Noce River, stands Castel Caldes. This Gothic-style fortress preserves the culture and legends of the past and is now home to the Buonconsiglio Museum, with noteworthy art collections.

Inside, be sure to admire the vaulted ceilings, frescoes and wood panelling. The ground floor has cobblestone paving. On the right, down a few steps, you will reach the Sala della Colonna hall, part of the 13th-century structure of the castle. To the left, you will enter the kitchens and the Sala del Dazio hall. Don’t miss the Count’s Room and the Ballroom.

Just outside the castle, you can visit the Chapel of the Nativity of Mary, a charming little chapel dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. If you climb the Torre Aquila (Eagle Tower), as well as admiring the splendid frescoes of the Cycle of the Months, you can enjoy enchanting panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

You can reach the castle from Trento in less than an hour by car and in about an hour and a half by train or bus.
