Caldes

Overview

An ancient municipality of the Val di Sole, quiet and well preserved, Caldes was included in the lists of the Most Beautiful Towns of Italy in July 2023.

Located beside the Stelvio National Park, it is surrounded by gentle slopes covered with woods and apple trees, on which the seven hamlets that make up the widespread municipality stand. The settlements are built around ancient chapels that preserve Gothic to Baroque structures and altars. The centre of Caldes, small and charming, has a history dating back to 1200, when a hot water spring, which has now disappeared, gave its name to the village.

Castel Caldes, a witness to the history of the village, was built in the 13th century in Gothic style and modified over the centuries.

The manor house, which often hosts exhibitions and events, is one of the four castles connected by Il Trenino dei Castelli, a special train for visits to the castles of Val di Sole and Val di Non.

Lush and abundant nature, one of the largest ski areas in Trentino, routes and trails to explore by bicycle or on foot, and excellent food and wine tastings make a visit to these places unique and unforgettable.
