Villa or Celle Farm

Overview

A large sculpture by Alberto Burri marks the entrance gate to the forty-five hectares of suburban countryside and the Gori couple's historic villa. A walk up to the meeting point among the olive trees, where a guide starts a group walk lasting about three hours. Dozens and dozens of contemporary art installations are spread around the estate, or displayed in the villa itself and in the farm buildings. Each piece is the result of a personal relationship between the artist of the piece and the owners Giuliano and Pina Gori and a first series of pieces by international artists of the highest standard was launched here back in 1982. The ongoing initiative is by no means over despite the founder's recent death, and this is also proven by the start of the restoration of the villa's park and garden, financed with European funds under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

In the field of contemporary art, the surprises that Pistoia offers include the Jorio Vivarelli Foundation and Villa La Magia. The first, in the nearby Felceti, houses pieces by the Tuscan sculptor and art lover Federico Fellini. The second, further away and next to the town of Quarrata, is a historic Medici building that now houses both temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection of the park-museum "The Spirit of the Place". Another place where nature communicates with art.
