Roccamandolfi

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

Roccamandolfi is a picturesque mountain town at the foot of the Matese massif, almost on the boundary between Molise and Campania. Around the Church of St James Major is the picturesque historic centre, full of clustered houses and narrow alleys. The town's history, especially during the Renaissance, is linked to banditry, as you can discover in the Records Archive and along the trail through the village, which has several points of interest including the Brigand's Statue. Standing high above the town are the remains of the fortress, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view.

For lovers of the great outdoors, there are plenty of hiking trails, paths, caves and waterfalls. Thrillseekers should pay a visit to the Tibetan bridge, where you can walk at high altitude through the rock faces.

Experts consider the traditional period costume of Roccamandolfi to be one of the finest in Italy, both for its aesthetic beauty and its cultural heritage value. The costume is also displayed in the streets of the old town. When it comes to food, try the local cheeses, honey and salami.
