We have selected 6 nature activities worth pursuing in Molise: just choose the one that suits you best, and enjoy. Because the sofa can wait!
The Cundra: a hiking route suitable for everyone, along a panorama with a sea view
The hiking route from the hermitage of Sant'Egidio in Frosolone to the Geosito della Cundra, passing over the summit of the Montagnola Molisana, is an easy itinerary. It's suitable for everyone, adults and children alike. It is a five-and-a-half-hour walk through the enchanting mountain landscape, full of oddly shaped rocks, that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Starting from the hermitage at the foot of the Colle dell'Orso, you will find along the way first the suggestive Inghiottitoio del Diavolo (Devil's Abyss), lined inside with fanciful stalactites, then the Morgia Quadra cliff, on whose grey limestone walls many people climb, and finally the ruins of the monastery of Sant'Onofrio, a former Benedictine convent now abandoned.
Surrounding you and accompanying you on your walk is a stunning panorama overlooking the sea.
In Pesche, excursions are by e-bike
Getting back in shape is easy along the paths of the Riserva Naturale Orientata di Pesche. Without resorting to any excessive physical exertion, thanks to the use of electric mountain bikes, you can enjoy a beautiful ride through nature, lasting from 3 to 5 hours.
From the historic centre of Pesche, the charming nativity village in the heart of Molise with its small houses embedded in the rock, you will reach the most remote parts of the reserve, discovering the secrets hidden in the Pesche landscape. No need to worry, you will be assisted by expert guides, who will offer e-bike routes of various types, depending on your needs, but only suitable from 14 years of age and above, and therefore not recommended for children.
A new adrenalin rush in Campitello Matese excursion
For thrill-seekers, we recommend another type of experience, which is certainly more extreme: a paragliding flight at Campitello Matese.
On Molise's highest peaks, you will find yourself immersed in a natural spectacle of incomparable beauty. From above, you can admire scenery featuring beech, chestnut, turkey oak and downy oak forests, interspersed with wide, flat expanses.
And, at the end of your adventure, you can stop offat the Baita la Gallinola to take refreshment from typical Matese country flavours, authentic local products ranging from caciocavallo cheese to lamb and kid meat.
Sant'Agapito: horse riding and hippotherapy
If you are looking for more leisurely outings, you should not miss the trips on horseback. Around the small village of Sant'Agapito, the gateway to the Matese on the north-western slope not far from Isernia, lies the Torrente Lorda Natural Area, rich in itineraries with endless opportunities for nature excursions.
Entrusting yourself to the Samarcanda Equestrian Centre, a true historical institution, you can opt not only for horse riding (and, for the youngest, rides on ponies and donkeys), in covered and uncovered fields, but also individual and group lessons in Western and English riding, Pole Bending and Barrel Racing training, and—the icing on the cake—hippotherapy
Extreme Jeep Tours among the peaks of Molise
How would you like to take a Jeep tour among the peaks of Molise? From Carpinone, a mediaeval village in Molise that is home to fabulous waterfalls, there are some truly exhilarating itineraries. On board an off-road vehicle, you will cross rugged roads and rough terrain that will take you to unimaginable places. You will discover the wild side of Molise's countryside, an unbridled adventure for a journey back in time. You can walk along the tratturi, ancient paths used for transhumance.
If you wish, you can enjoy a meal of succulent roast meat and delicious local cheeses. All this at high altitude, above the Matese, Mainarde and other spots hide in the vegetation of the area around Isernia.
Castel San Vincenzo, the romance of a walk by the lake
We are always close to Isernia. Here, you can find an ideal itinerary for couples: a romantic walk around the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Castel San Vincenzo al Volturno Lake, a little gem that you can visit in the village of the same name in the province of Isernia.
Surrounded by the peaks of the Mainarde mountains, along the shores of this astonishing artificial body of water, the only one with bathing facilities in the whole of Molise, you can stroll hand in hand with your loved one. You will feel as if you are walking in a place suspended in time and, if you feel like taking a nap, you can even rent one of the tents on offer, suspended among the trees.
