Limosano

Overview

The village is perched on a rocky outcrop with a panoramic view of the Biferno valley. It is small but very spectacular, with the central square containing the single nave, 14th-century ogival portal, bell tower and monastery of the Church of St Francis. Another bell tower points us to St Mary Major, which in the 9th century was the cathedral of its own diocese. The church now has an 18th-century floor plan, although the remains of the medieval crypt can still be seen.

The old part of the town, between stairways and stone portals, has that indefinable charm of semi-abandoned places. Here you will find the feudal palace and nearby the Church of St Stephen, with its 14th-century portal.
