Sasso Simone and Simoncello Interregional Park

Overview

Straddling the provinces of Pesaro and Urbino and Rimini, close to the Apennine mountain chain, the park covers an area of almost 5,000 hectares. At the heart of the protected area is the rocky massif of the two crags, Simone and Simoncello, with their white walls contrasting with the green of the forest, and traces of human presence dating back to the Bronze Age brought to light by archaeological excavations; The peaks can be reached along marked trails 17, 118 and 119, and once there, you can enjoy spectacular views. Equally spectacular is the panorama from Mount Carpegna, at an altitude of 1,415 metres: the view from here stretches as far as the point of division between the Foglia and Marecchia valleys. In Pennabili you'll find the park's visitor centres as well as the Nature Museum, which is also interesting for children. Here they can discover the park's animals, such as wolves, wild cats, porcupines and birds of prey, and also see other nature exhibits.
