Lunano

Overview

The castle of Lunano was founded shortly after the year one thousand, on a hill at the point where the Mutino stream joins the Foglia river, an almost completely unspoilt place that, surrounded by the green hills, becomes an island of silence and scenic beauty. The history of the village is intertwined with that of the Montefeltro family of Urbino and the Brancaleoni family of Urbania, and is recounted in the present day with the features and origins of the oldest buildings, such as the Ubaldini castle, the remains of which can still be seen, and the Franciscan convent of Monte Illuminato, which hosted Francis of Assisi who, according to legend, performed a miracle here. Nature, in Lunano, is also expressed in its table: an exceptional product is the chestnut, but there are also white truffles and mushrooms.
