Campodolcino

Overview

Situated in a narrow glacial valley in the province of Sondrio , Campodolcino was born from the union of several settlements located in the valley or on the sides of the mountains: Prestone, Portarezza, Pietra, Tini, Acero, Corti, Fraciscio, Starleggia, Splughetta, Ca' de Luch, Motta. The place, inhabited since ancient times, bears witness to the strategic importance of Valle Spluga in trade with nearby Switzerland.

Numerous churches, ancient palaces and testimonies of a glorious past are worth a visit. Among them are the Palace housing the Via Spluga Museum, the Roman bridge and the Church of San Giovanni Battista. Also not to be forgotten is the birthplace of St. Luigi Guanella in Fraciscio.
