Castello d'Agogna

Overview

Many rice fields, but also crops of corn, wheat and tobacco, colour the agricultural landscape around Castello d'Agogna, just 5 kilometres down the road from Mortara.

It is possible that Julius Caesar himself, together with his Roman legions, founded the ancient town of Castello d'Agogna in the 1st century BC, strategically located on the road leading to ancient Gaul (France). In medieval and then modern times, "Castrum ad Aconiam" (the Latin name of the village) would become the fief of several aristocratic families, who expanded and embellished the city fortress over the centuries.

Castello d'Agogna owes its name to the important manor that stands in the centre of the town. The Isimbardi castle, from the name of the owner family, is open to external customers who wish to organise events or weddings here in the summer.
