Waterfall Trail in Gaina Valley

Overview

Between the walls of a canyon

The Waterfall Trail is located in Monticelli Brusati, Lombardy. The nature loop trail crosses a small canyon produced by the erosion of a stream in Gaina Valley, not far from Lake Iseo.

Once in Monticelli Brusati, take the path from the hamlet of Gaina. A pink and white marker indicates the way down to the stream. The path is open year-round but becomes slippery when it rains. The ideal seasons to enjoy it are spring and summer.

Shortly after the first section, you can choose between two routes: a simpler one, which can also be walked with children, and a variant for more experienced hikers which includes some more adventurous passages holding on to chains to climb a short rock face.

You can admire several waterfalls along the way, and at some points you have to cross the stream. The complete route is about 8.5 kilometres long, round trip. There’s a clearing at the end of the trail where you can stop for a picnic. From here you can continue along the ancient Roman route Via Valeriana until you reach the shores of Lake Iseo.
