Capanna 2000 Refuge

Overview

An experience in close contact with the mountains

Located at an altitude of 1,969 metres, on the southern slope of Pizzo Arera, in the municipality of Oltre il Colle, the Capanna 2000 refuge is accessible from Zambla Alta. You can drive up to Plassa in the winter months and up to 1,600 metres in the summer months, where you can conveniently park under the old ski lifts. From here, you can continue on foot along the CAI 221 path, which takes you to the refuge in just under an hour, or less experienced hikers can follow the roadway, which climbs more gently towards Pian Cansaccio Alpe Arera

Its sunny and panoramic location makes it a popular destination in all seasons for mountaineering and nature excursions. By taking the EM path, in an hour’s walk, you will reach the summit of Pizzo Arera at an altitude of 2,512 metres. From the summit, you can enjoy breath-taking views of the Bergamasque Alps, as far as Monte Rosa to the north-west and the Apennines to the south.

For less experienced walkers, we recommend the “Flower Trail”, an easy loop hike among mountain flowers during spring and summer months. There are various other excursions starting from the refuge, including the circumnavigation of the Arera, Cima Corna Piana, Cima Valmora, Cima Grem, Monte Vetro, Cima Menna and Laghi Gemelli, from the original lakes with the same name, now incorporated into one large artificial lake.
