GAMeC – Galleria d\'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo (Bergamo Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art)

Overview

Next to the Accademia Carrara, a former 15th-century convent has been very well renovated to house the GAMeC, Galleria d\'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, a good example of public-private collaboration. There is a permanent collection of works by 20th century Italian masters - starting with Giacomo Manzù from Bergamo, but also Balla, Boccioni, Campigli, Casorati, De Chirico, de Pisis, Magnelli, Morandi, Radice, Savinio - and post-World War II artists: Dorazio, Morlotti and Mušič, up to Baj and Adami. A foreign landscape (Kandinsky, Hartung, Matta, Richter, Sutherland) and an important photographic background are perhaps less central but should be considered carefully.

This is not enough, even without talking about the tree-lined square and the cafeteria. The liveliness of GAMeC lies above all in the high level of its temporary exhibitions, which sometimes involve other venues in the city.
