Piazza Pepe - Civitella del Tronto

Overview

A balcony on the Gran Sasso

No matter how many times you have already visited Civitella del Tronto, you will never tire of strolling through its streets, the narrow alleys of the historical centre. The village is always able to give you an unprecedented glimpse, a new detail or a feeling that will leave you in awe. Its houses and historic buildings in stone and travertine are perched on a rocky cliff, in the province of Teramo.

To fully appreciate the surrounding landscape, head to Piazza Filippi Pepe, in the medieval heart of the town. On one side of the square, there is a long panoramic balcony. From here, the space is free to wander from the Gran Sasso to the Adriatic Sea. On the other sides of the square, the Palazzo Portici and the Church of San Lorenzo overlook historical workshops.

Leaving the viewpoint, go through the alleys to discover the hidden jewels of Civitella, from Porta Napoli to Palazzo Ronchi, from the Fortress to the Church of San Francesco. If narrow spaces do not bother you, for the novelty you can pass through Ruetta, which is crowned the "narrowest street in Italy", at only 40 centimetres wide.
