Peschiera del Garda

Overview

A military fortress on the lakeshore

A unique village, Peschiera del Garda lies on the border between Lombardy and Veneto on the southern shores of Lake Garda. Due to its strategic location, the village developed as an outpost for military purposes, creating a real fortified town.

The Rocca di Peschiera del Garda, located at the heart of the town, still retains its pentagonal shape from the walls erected in the 16th century, when the town was under Venetian rule. If you enter through the wonderful Porta Brescia, you can then walk along a path that joins Bastione Tognon to Bastione Feltrin On the opposite side of Peschiera del Garda you can find Bastione San Marco and Porta Verona, bearing the visible effigy of the Lion of St Mark.

When leaving the perimeter of the fortification, we recommend a visit to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino, which was built between 1511 and 1514: an elegant structure in perfect Renaissance style.

Peschiera del Garda is an excellent starting point for visiting the other resorts on the lake. From Piazza Betteloni, you can take a boat to beautiful Desenzano, Salò, Lazise and Sirmione.
