Overview
On January 6, 2025, the Grand Canal will once again be the protagonist of the 45th edition of the Regata delle Befane. Organized by the Reale Società Canottieri Bucintoro, the regatta has its roots in the imagination and irony of two former members, Nino Bianchetto and Enzo Rinaldo, who brought this extraordinary event to life in 1979.
The protagonists challenge each other aboard mascarete, dressed as Befanas! The event will be preceded by the water parade of the company boats, which will depart from the Magazzini del Sale, the historic headquarters of the RSC Bucintoro. During the parade, the Befane will be accompanied to the regatta field and will carry a giant sock, symbol of the event, which will be hung on the Rialto Bridge.
The race route includes the start in front of the Palazzo della Banca d'Italia, with the Rialto Bridge behind it. After circling the flying buoy near the mouth of the Rio di San Polo, the participants will return to the finish line, under the arch of the bridge, welcomed by the enthusiasm of the crowd that every year fills the banks of the Grand Canal.
