Overview

A “house of culture” in Mestre

A popular meeting place in Mestre, the Candiani Cultural Centre in Venice was born from a project entrusted to the studio of Iginio Cappai and Pietro Mainardis in 1978. It is a “house of culture”, created as a reference point for promoting all cultural services in the city and region.

Inaugurated in 2001, this communication, coordination and information centre is named after the Mestre-born painter Luigi Candiani. It houses two exhibition spaces of 600 and 200 square metres, a 200-seat auditorium theatre, a conference hall and a seminar room, a multimedia room and a “ludomedialab” learning laboratory. Since December 2013, it has been enhanced by the opening of the IMG Cinemas multiplex and the square in front of it.

The centre works in the field of visual, figurative and performing arts, organising exhibitions, performances and workshops for adults and children. The “Candiani Groove” offers musical events blending different expressive languages, from jazz to folk music to discussions with singer-songwriters. Lastly, the “Ad alta voce” format includes meetings with authors and book presentations, in collaboration with the Libreria Mondadori Mestre. The rooms also host meetings, conferences and cultural activities.
