Villa Giovanelli Colonna

Overview

Villa Giovanelli Colonna is a place to admire. It is a splendid architectural work completed in the 18th century by Giorgio Massari, a designer to whom Venice owes many churches (the Gesuati, San Marcuola, and the Pietà to name a few) and who is still praised for the acoustics of the Pietà where Antonio Vivaldi taught music. It can be admired at leisure. Going in to visit, however, is not necessarily a matter of course: the villa is private property, managed mainly for events hosted in the building and in the Parco (park). You can reach it by car or simply admire it and photograph it from a distance if you are a passenger on the Burchiello: the boat connecting Venice and Padua does not stop at Noventa Padovana but passes slowly in front of the staircase, the pronaos and the statues of this residential building, separated from the Piovego Canal by a strip of lawn.
