Villa Contarini Camerini

Overview

In the mists of time, there was a castle next to the river Brenta.  In the mid-1600s, the Contarini family had it rebuilt in the form of a villa, and shortly after the mid-1600s it took on the guise of a real palace.

A prospective avenue, named after the Camerini family who took care of the villa and the village in the 19th century, leads to the wide exedra, bordered by a half-empty arcade with porticoes. Immense balustraded wings extend from the body of the main building until they rejoin on the right, through a passageway on arches, the guest quarters on the other side of the Contarina Canal. Inside, the overlapping Music, or "Inverted Guitar", and "Auditions" rooms stand out, the first intended for instrumentalists and the second for the public, communicating through an opening from which the notes emanate with a highly effective acoustic effect;

The Veneto Region, which owns it, allocates the villa to concerts, events, exhibitions and cultural initiatives. On the last Sundays of the month, an important antiques market is held in the square in front, in the surrounding streets and in the former Jutificio Camerini. A vast park, partly for agricultural use, with tree-lined avenues, exotic plants, fishponds and lakes extends behind the villa.
