Montegrotto Terme

Overview

Ancient baths and noble villas

Montegrotto Terme, in Veneto, has been renowned since Roman times for its thermal baths. Today, as well as offering visitors over 240 pools and wellness activities, it is also rich in history and beauty, starting with the ancient Roman baths, excavations of which are located in the town centre.

In the centre, you can visit the Duomo dei Santi Pietro ed Eliseo cathedral, which was built in the mid-20th century on top of an older Roman building. It stands on a hill at the foot of which is the fascinating Oratory of the Black Madonna. We highly recommend visiting the Butterfly Arc and the magical Fairy Forest.

Near the centre is Villa Draghi, surrounded by a 30-hectare park. The villa is accessible via the Viale dell’Amore path, which features quotations from poets. Don’t miss Villa Barbarigo, with its beautiful garden, a maze and the Salvation Path, which departs from Diana’s Doorway.

Ten minutes from the village is Catajo Castle, nestled in the hills. For spectacular views of the Euganean Hills and nature walks, we recommend climbing Monte Ceva or Monte Venda, the highest of the Euganean Hills, where you can find the ruins of an Olivetan monastery. The autumn foliage is stunning.
