Lake Piediluco

Overview

Part of the Nera River Park protected area and a recommended detour during visits to the Marmore Falls, Piediluco is the second-largest natural lake in Umbria, after Lake Trasimeno.

Many tourists go there in late June and early July for the Water Festival, which celebrates the summer solstice with events and historical re-enactments. Piediluco is also a delightful destination throughout the rest of the year.

The main town, located on the north shore, preserves a beautiful church dedicated to St. Francis and is dominated by the ruins of a mediaeval fortress. From the top of the fortress, which can be reached on foot, you can enjoy a full view of the entire surrounding landscape. The southern shore of the lake is also traversed by paths and walkways, particularly around Mount Caperno, where hidden among the trees stands the statue of Our Lady of the Echo.

The waters of Lake Piediluco are particularly calm and entice travellers to try out water sports in the summer: it is not by chance that the Italian Rowing Federation has chosen this place for training its champions.
