Carsulae archaeological area

Overview

The Via Flaminia, a Roman consular road that connects Rome to Rimini, crosses an archaeological area of significant historical importance in southern Umbria. This is the ancient Carsulae, a city founded around the 3rd century BC near today's Terni and rediscovered during some archaeological excavations between the 17th and 18th centuries.

In Carsulae, the remains of a thermal baths and a spacious forum can be found today; particularly well-preserved are the town's theatre and amphitheatre. The arch of San Damiano, more displaced than the other archaeological finds, marked the northern entrance to the city and is still captivating with its powerful geometry.
