Piazza Grande

Overview

There is nothing similar in Italy. On the jagged southern slope of Mount Ingino, there is a public place suspended between earth and sky, surrounded on three sides by buildings and on the fourth open to the green hills of the Umbrian countryside. Piazza Grande or Piazza della Signoria, is a true "hanging" square from which to view the city from above. On either side of it, stand the city's public buildings: the Gothic-style Palazzo dei Consoli and Palazzo Pretorio, one opposite the other. Palazzo Ranghiasci Brancaleoni also overlooks the square.
