5 special places to discover Trentino foliage
3 minutes
The change in color of the leaves from green to russet and golden hues always makes an impression, no matter how many times we may have seen it. Trentino is one of the places in Italy where you can observe this colorful phenomenon in a landscape which becomes even more magical during this season.
Here, breathtaking landscapes and the Dolomites mountains create a natural vision of unparalleled beauty, which during this season is coloured with warm inviting shades.
Here are some places where you can go for a walk or autumn hike in Trentino, to enjoy the seasons spectacle, take memorable photographs and indulge in a regenerating moment in nature.
Towards Monte Corona, a walk through color for the whole family
If you are looking for a walk that is truly accessible for everyone, even the little ones, start from the town of Giovo and take the road that leads to Monte Corona. After passing the apple orchards, surrounded by beech and conifer woods, you can see, hear and feel the nature that is slowly introducing itself to winter. Continue in the direction of the Belvedere di Dos Paion viewpoint, from which you can admire all the beauty of the mountains.
The whole route offers the opportunity for stunning shots thanks to the truly rich and magical foliage.
An explosion of color around the waters of Lake Tovel
The waters are so clear that they merge with the sky and the forest, creating a truly special vision: here on the shores of Lake Tovel, on a side valley of the Val di Non from which you can see the Brenta Dolomites and all the majesty of the nature of the Trentino.
Once the lake was colored red due to a particular algae: the microorganisms were once activated with contact from the animals that came to drink. Herd animals no longer pass through here so the waters now remain very clear, but the landscape has not lost any charm. In October, the spectacle of nature changing its appearance is not to be missed.
Strolling along the shores of the lake, surrounded by the contrasts of color reflected on the water is a beautiful experience.
Trekking to the Val di Fumo Refuge to admire the foliage
The final stretch of the Daone Valley is called the Val di Fumo and is one of the most famous areas for walking and trekking in the whole of Trentino. Between the waterfalls and the Adamello group, is a path that leads from the Malga Bissina lake towards the Val di Fumo refuge, crossing vegetation rivulets and streams. Excursions in Val di Fumo offer spectacular views, the foliage is just the icing on the cake.
On foot or by mountain bike: the Belvedere trail
Next stop Parco del Respiro, a unique place where you might find yourself surrendering to an experience of deep well-being.
Near the confluence of the Adige and the Noce, with open views towards eastern Trentino, you can explore the Belvedere trail, an easy path through the woods that can be enjoyed on foot or by mountain bike. Surrounded by unspoiled nature and breathtaking views, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to another world.
Alla Forra del Lupo for a real leap in time
Alpe Cimbra is certainly one of the most interesting areas to consider walking and trekking in Trentino, especially in autumn to observe the foliage. The atmosphere here is perhaps more meaningful as it was one of the key locations during the First World War.
A path worth trying is that of the Forra del Lupo, a sort of trench dug amongst the rocks in 1914 by Austro-Hungarian soldiers, which creates a very particular gorge. The rather long walk will lead you to the Baita Tonda refuge, where you can enjoy a soldier's lunch while taking in the breathtaking landscape. Local authorities organize excursions to admire the foliage in all its splendor, with trekking suitable for everyone.
Surrounded by the beautiful and ever-changing colors of the foliage offers a truly unique experience.
