San Vigilio di Marebbe

Overview

Ladin traditions in South Tyrol

San Vigilio di Marebbe is located in South Tyrol, in Val di Marebbe, on the edge of the Val Badia valley. Traditional South Tyrolean houses framed by the Dolomites make for a picturesque historic centre. Local people still speak Ladin, a language that endures along with legends and delicious traditional cuisine.

The 13th-century church of San Vigilio di Trento, in the heart of the village has a Baroque façade and a Gothic-style bell tower. Next to it is the statue of Katharina Lanz, known as the Joan of Arc of Tyrol. Don’t miss the former noble residences La Gran Ciasa and Ras Castle.

All around, the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park features huge gorges, countless hiking trails, pastures, mountain lodges and shelters. A visit to Lake Braies, with its emerald waters, at the top of the Kronplatz mountain is a must.
In winter, you can ski down 100 km of slopes or hike through the woods on snowshoes. For absolute relaxation, you can book a wellness hotel stay and while away the afternoons at the spa. In summer, thrill seekers can enjoy the zip line or explore the mountain bike trails. The ski lifts also work for bicycles.
