Croda Rossa di Sesto

Overview

Home to the only reindeer herd in Italy

On the border between Trentino-South Tyrol and Veneto, the Sextener Rotwand Mountain rises almost 3,000 metres above the villages of Sesto and Moso, in the Sesto Dolomites nature park. The scene of a battle between Italian Alpini and Austrian troops in the First World War, you can easily reach its summit thanks to equipped routes and via ferratas that climb up the various slopes.

There are also lift facilities belonging to “zone 7-Alta Pusteria” of the Dolomiti Superski area. One of the most popular ski slopes among athletes is the Holzriese, one of the steepest black slopes in the Dolomites.

The resort is ideal for children, not only thanks to the large playground near the funicular, but also because it is home to the only reindeer herd in the Alps, who live in an enclosure near the mountain station of the cable car. It is an unmissable experience for both children and adults.

Next to the cable car arrival area is the start of the 5-kilometre toboggan run, which is also open at night once a week. This is the starting point of the circular, family-friendly trail, suitable for pushchairs, which takes you through the beautiful pastures in under an hour and a half.
